The equation from:[https://www.stefanboersen.nl/RotatingGravitationalEllipse.pdf] assumes a perfect linear relation for the aphelium with time. So the aphelium will change the same amount per orbit around the sun. The EIH equation does NOT do this, it is not linear. Can you draw a graph aphelium number versus angle and conclude wether it is lineair or wheher there is a parabolic influence. Because this decises what the better equation is?

Short answer up front: I can’t reliably pull JPL/Horizons from here right now (the automated fetch fails), so I can’t produce the definitive plot from JPL ephemerides by myself.

- use an F-test for nested models (linear nested in quadratic):

- compute the p-value from the F-distribution. If p-value < 0.01 (or your chosen threshold), the quadratic term is statistically significant -> evidence for curvature (parabolic influence).
- also compare adjusted $R^2$ and examine the fitted $b_2$ and its standard error to see effect size.
Produce a graph: aphelion number (x-axis) vs longitude (y-axis), with both fits overlaid and residuals subplot.

This is a standard, robust way to decide whether the aphelia advance linearly (constant per-orbit increment) or contain a detectable quadratic drift.

2) Option A — Script to fetch JPL/Horizons ephemeris automatically (run locally)

Save the following as get_mercury_aphelia_and_analyze.py and run it with Python 3. It will:

fetch ephemerides from the JPL Horizons horizons.api using the TLIST of your 30 aphelion times (I included the times you previously used),
parse the returned CSV, extract heliocentric ecliptic longitude (J2000), then do the linear vs quadratic fit, output the F-test and a PNG graph aphelia_fit.png.

Notes before running:

This uses the public JPL SSD API (no API key). If your machine can reach ssd-api.jpl.nasa.gov it should work. If your environment blocks outbound HTTP, run this on your machine or a laptop with internet.
